With Lockdown over soon we bring you the last part of our Hilux series. We hope you've all been safe in these crazy times and we know you can't wait to get back out there to the 4x4 trails on an adventure.
The current Hilux is the 8th generation. Built and designed of a history of solid performance, reliability and just being a damn tough truck. Launched in May 2015 it's been produced to present day. To truly understand what customers expected and the challenges they face on a daily basis, the Hilux development teams traveled the globe, getting direct feedback from customers and driving on a wide variety of different roads to get a feel for different usage conditions.
The entire development concept for the 8th generation Hilux was centred on 'redefining toughness,' with the aim of making the new Hilux 'tougher' based on a much broader interpretation of that word. The 8th generation Hilux design was not only tougher but also reduced stress as much as possible.
Above and beyond conventional ideas of toughness, it boasted ride comfort that made long, tough drives less gruelling, a quiet cabin that allowed communication in any conditions, and enhanced cruising range thanks to improved fuel efficiency. It could also be relied on to provide the legendary ruggedness, performance, responsiveness and safety expected from the model.
In Conclusion
The Toyota Hilux began life as an inexpensive and spartan little work truck made by Hino, and went on to earn itself a reputation as a dependable and affordable vehicle for situations where things were going to get tough, and the Hilux could be depended on to keep right on going. Toyota were able to correctly assess what people were looking for in a practical vehicle and made the Hilux to fulfill those needs despite that requiring coverage of a wide spectrum. The Hilux range expanded cautiously, but wisely, pioneering new concepts and delivering a vehicle that fired people’s imaginations.
The Hilux retains the title of “the car Top Gear could not destroy”. It has made its mark in the annals of automotive history, and is likely to be with us for a few more decades to come.
